Overall, probably regardless of model, Ome makes great banjos, admittedly pricey, but worth it IMO, as do many, many other makers these days.Search Support: 2 Baseball Football Basketball Hockey Non Sport Everything Else Description: Signed LP Record Album w/ the following autograph(s). I really like the woody rim/tone ring sound. And the looks of banjos in this "Old Time" line that Ome makes are fantastic - not a better lookin' banjo out there, IMO, recognizing that looks is largely a matter of personal taste, as is tone, I suppose. I'd like to one day get an Enoch or a Ramsey with the approximate same neck/nut width. I especially like the slightly shorter scale length and the neck and nut widths, which makes drop thumb a little easier and cleaner. In sum: best clawhammer banjo I have ever owned. I've posted a review here on the Hangout. Check out the Monarch on banjobuyer.Īcoustic Vibes in Tempe has a website but they only have higher priced Ome's right now. I know someone who went through the Ome facility and left totally impressed with how they make their banjos and the workmanship and time dedicated to the finished product. Logically, the rim influences the sound a little more than the other components.

I like maple rims, but my banjo is maple all the way, and I really don't know how much the sound is affected by necks and resonators vs. Don't know if wood type matters, but the Mondarch is maple rim with mahogany neck and resonator. Don't know if it's negotiable, but there is an Ome Monarch on and I think they want around 2500 - says it is in mint condition. Other than what initially seemed a high price tag (which I overlook because of just how much I love everything else about this banjo) I'd say I have nothing but positive things to say about my OME.Įdited by - championofnorthhuron on 08:22:22ĭoug - these guys are right - Ome is up there on the top shelf with a few others like Gibson, Stelling, Deering, and some smaller companies who make great stuff. I'd assume that the quality of my OME certainly extends to their entire line however. I'm guessing from your photo and member profile that you're more in to a bluegrass style banjo (resonator and heavy tone ring) so I can't speak to the OME's of that style. I think we always have a tendency to spend more time with something that is new until some of the novelty wears off). I now have four banjos, and since buying the Tupelo it has pretty much been the one I reach for the most (to be fair though my other banjos are also pretty nice.

a lot of this I think logically has to do with the neck profile and width. Everything about it just feels right in my hands. I recently bought OME's Tupelo one of the models in their new old time line of open backs. Once I picked that banjo up I knew I had to have it. I thought it was a little expensive for such a simple model, but the tone, playability, materials, construction, craftsmanship, aesthetic, etc. Championofnorthhuron - Posted - : 08:20:54
